County Galway, with Connemara - a region of superb scenic grandeur dominated by a rocky mountain range and offshore, the eroded, sheer swaths of land known as the Aran Islands with tiny villages clinging to the rocks. And, finally, County Mayo, a beautiful and inspiring region with breathtaking landscapes and panoramic countryside. Mayo also includes Ireland`s largest island, Achill Island, with its magnificent sandy beaches and sea cliffs. It is the county of Croagh Patrick and Ballintubber Abbey, numerous mediaeval friaries, the Marian Shrine of Knock. and of the mysterious 5,000-year-old settlement at Ceide Fields.
