Map of The Scottish Highlands
Cities, Towns, and Lochs of the Highlands

Considered by most to be the capital of the Highlands. It is a small but thriving city. Despite the large reliance on tourism, the city is able to retain its market town feel, dating to its early development with a wealth of historic buildings in and around the city`s Old Town.

The nearest tourist resort to the Cairngorm Mountains offering accessibility to some of the most beautiful scenery in the Highlands, known for its skiing in winter and hiking in summer.

The ancient capital of Scotland, Dunfermline is a town with a rich historic and cultural heritage, having much to offer to its visitors. The town is intersected from north to south by the picturesque Pittencrieff Park.

Fort William, on the shores of Loch Linnhe, is a bustling town, thriving on the summer tourist trade and filled with shops, hotels, and cafes. It`s a good base for exploring Ben Nevis, Scotland`s highest mountain, and also, for a day trip to Glencoe, Scotland`s most famous and most scenic Highland glen.

One of Scotland’s largest and most famous lochs, known around the world thanks to its elusive monster Nessie. Just a short distance from Inverness, this impressive stretch of water is 23 miles long and over 700 ft at its deepest, making it Scotland’s largest loch in terms of volume.

Founded in 1788, on the lovely shores of the salt lake Loch Broom, Ullapool is a picturesque port and an excellent centre for a Scottish holiday.

THE HIGHLANDS

The Highlands are the reality behind the captivating images conjured by most people when thinking of Scotland. It is a beautiful and inspiring region, full of timeless landscapes and absorbing history.
