CANNES - GETTING AROUND

By Public Transportation

Public transportation is reliable, safe and inexpensive, although there is little need for public transport in the city center. The main operator is Palm Bus (www.palmbus.fr). You can buy tickets onboard or from tabacs (stores); day tickets, weekly passes and booklets of 10 tickets are available. The open-top #8 bus makes for a great scenic ride along the sea front from the port in the west to the Palm Beach peninsula in the east; tickets cost about €1.50.

The City Palm service operates in the very center of Cannes. This bus circles along La Croisette, rue d`Antibes and past the railway station before returning to the Hotel de Ville every 10 minutes. Tickets are available for purchase on the bus or at a tabac (store). One-day tickets with unlimited travel are available on this line only.

By Train

The Cannes Ville Train Station, the main station in Cannes, also referred to as Gare de Cannes, is located at rue Jean Jaures. It is centrally located and services both high speed and regional trains services. There are three types of international trains that use this station: TEE (Trans-Europe Express), Trains Bleus, and TGV (high speed trains). It offers rapid access to the main thoroughfares of Cannes, which is why plenty of locals and visitors choose traveling by train. The station is located within walking distance from the city center.

By Taxi

Taxis can be hailed at taxi stations or ordered by telephone from Taxis Cannes (www.taxicannes.fr). Taxis are reliable and arrive within about five minutes anywhere in the city center. This option is perfect for getting around at night or for tourists looking for a rapid means of transport to your final destination. Tipping is not expected, but is appreciated.

Uber is available in Cannes (and is a welcome alternative to taxis) offering a reliable ride at less expensive rates.

By Walking

Cannes is easy to get around on foot and arguably the best way to explore because the city is rather small. In addition, the chance of identifying and enjoying some of the less renowned objectives of Cannes is better if you choose this means of getting around.

By Bicycle

Cannes is great to explore by bike offering a way to see the city in a short period of time. You can hire scooters and bicycles at different locations in the city, with both half day and full day rental options available. The city offers excellent cycle routes so you won`t have to fight with too much traffic to enjoy the lovely surroundings. In addition, there are plenty of bike routes that are accessible directly from Cannes that run the length of the coastline; you can travel for miles in either direction enjoying the stunning views. However, unless you stick to the coastline, roads around the area are very rarely level.

By Car

It is not recommended to drive in the city due to the fact that Cannes is compact and getting around by foot is less challenging. If you decide to rent a car we suggest you pick it up as you depart the city to avoid excessive rental/parking expenses. Car rental companies can be found throughout the city. Parking lots are quite accessible around the city center. The average hourly parking price is about €3.50, the average daily parking is about €20. There are also plenty of overnight parking options in Cannes, which will cost about €20.00. Some of the most popular overnight parking spots include: Suquet Forville, Vauban, JW Marriot Cannes.
