Day 1 in Salzburg

Welcome to Salzburg! Upon arrival, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!

Begin the afternoon with a pleasant lunch at any of the charming streetside cafes in Old Town. Afterward, we recommend that you get acquainted with the city by choosing an optional tour such as `Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour of Salzburg,` showcasing the main sights of the city.

As night falls, enjoy a traditional dinner in the charming Altstadt (Old Town) and discover Salzburg`s beer culture at one of the many beer gardens or pubs.

Day 2 in Salzburg

Wake up early today and relive your favorite scenes from the classic musical The Sound of Music, the highly acclaimed 1965 film starring Julie Andrews. Explore the films iconic sites, see the beautiful locations where scenes from the movie were filmed, visit the gazebo where `Sixteen Going on Seventeen` was shot, check out the famous white pavilion, Mondsee Abbey and the beautiful Schloss Lepoldskron.

In the afternoon spend some time strolling through Mirabell Gardens, by far one of the most beautiful attractions in Salzburg. Then head over to Mozart Wohnhaus (Mozart`s Residence), the city is renowned around the world for the being the birthplace of Mozart. From here, take a stroll around the Salzach River. Along the river are some of the most beautiful views of the city (especially the Salzburg Fortress) and the bridges joining the two sides of Salzburg together are a sight to see! And check out Mozartsteg (Mozart bridge) located near Mozartplatz. Finish your afternoon at Mozart Geburtshaus (Mozart`s Birthplace) where you can discover more about Mozart`s childhood and his journey to becoming one of the most gifted and talented musical composers of all times.

After a busy day of sightseeing, head to the Old Town`s maze of Gassen (alleys), where vaulted taverns serve up meaty favorites and don`t forget to grab a ` Maß,` a liter of beer, at one of the many beer gardens in the city. After all, Salzburg is regarded as the beer capital of Austria.

Day 3 in Salzburg

Start off your day by exploring Fortress Hohensalzburg (Salzburg Castle), one of the most popular attractions offering spectacular views of Salzburg. The Fortress is the largest completely preserved castle left in central Europe, originally built in 1077.

A short walk from the Salzburg Fortress is DomQuartier Salzburg (Salzburg`s Cathedral Quarter), which is one of the largest domed structures north of the Alps, the architectural complex comprises the Cathedral and the Residenz and includes five different Salzburg museums. A highlight of the DomQuartier is the 360 views of Salzburg from the top - a great photo opportunity!

Spend the rest of the day wandering through the streets and squares of Salzburg exploring the beautiful architecture Salzburg has to offer. A few favorites you`ll want to make sure to stroll through: Residenzplatz, Mozartplatz and Mozart Monument, Getreidegasse (one of Salzburg`s famous shopping lanes), Linzer Gasse and Platzl (offers handicrafts and old shops), and one of Salzburg`s oldest streets, Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse. And after so much sightseeing head to one of the many coffee houses to enjoy a Verlangerter (mocha or espresso prepared with double water) with apple strudel or Sachel torte, sit back and enjoy!

Alternatively, you may want to spend your last night on the top of the Gaisberg mountain to watch the sunset and have a picnic. The view of the Austrian Alps form the top of this mountain is incredible, and a perfect way to end your last evening and reflect on just how beautiful Salzburg is!

Additional Days in Salzburg

Should you be able to spend additional days in Salsburg check out the Durrnberg salt mines (Salzbergwerk Hallein), a popular attraction easily visited on a day trip. The area offers intriguing information about the strenuous work done by miners in the past and allows you to explore in the footsteps of the Ancient Celts from back in 400 BC. The adventure begins on your ride into the mountains offering amazing views of the area. You`ll then head deep into the mine tunnels and slither down two long miner` slides to the subterranean salt lake. Raft across the lake and continue to discover the world of the ancient miners.

Alternatively, you may want to visit the Ice Caves of Eisriesenwelt, about 30 miles south of Salzburg by train. The `World of the Ice Giants,` the largest known ice caves inthe world, is an underground wonderland lined with amazing ice figures and frozen waterfalls. The `Ice Palace` in the underground wonderland is the highlight of the adventure making it every bit worth the trip! Keep in mind this is a physical trip where you will find yourself walking down narrow, slippery passages.

Your Last Day in Salzburg

Depart your hotel for the airport for your return home. We recommend that you purchase a private transfer, if so a representative will meet you at the hotel in time to take you to the airport for your flight out.
