CORFU - GETTING THERE

By Air

There are daily flights from and to the airport of Athens, Eleytherios Venizelos, and the duration of the flight is round 1 hour. There is also air connection to Thessaloniki, 3 or 4 times a week. Finally, during high period, Corfu is air-connected to a lot of European cities, with charter flights, mainly from Germany and England.

Corfu Airport
Corfu International Airport or Ioannis Kapodistrias airport is located around 2 miles south of Corfu Town. The approach and landing, in a northeasterly direction, affords the flying passengers a spectacular aerial view of Pontikonisi and Vlaherna Monastery as well as the hills of Kanoni as the runway used for landing is actually a few hundred yards away from these spectacular landmarks.

The airport offers domestic flights with Olympic Airlines and Aegean Airlines, but the vast majority of traffic in the summer season is charter flights. The city of Corfu is just few minutes' drive.

Transportation
Local blue busses no.5 and no.6 stop outside the airport. A trip into Corfu city only takes about 10 minutes. From the Corfu Airport Bus Station buses leave for destinations all over the island.

By Ferry

There are ferries every hour to and from Igoumounitsa on the mainland about an hour away. From Igoumenitsa there are daily routes to Corfu, from 6 in morning up to 10 in evening. The trip lasts 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the type of ferry boat. During summer months, boats from and to Igoumenitsa depart every 15 minutes.

From the port in Patra, the trip to Corfu lasts 7-8 hours, but it is very comfortable because the ferry boats are luxurious. These ferries go to Italy and stop in Corfu port for embarkation. The sea connection Corfu-Italy is frequent and the main cities are Bari, Ankona and Brindisi. Finally, there are boats, which transport you to nearby destinations such as Paxoi, Kefalonia and neighboring Albania.

Cruise ships dock at Corfu's New Port, which has a terminal with a welcome center (pick up an excellent town map). Outside the terminal to your left is a long parking lot with rental cars and taxis, and beyond that a public bus stop. From the New Port, you can see the Old Fortress, about 2 miles to the east.
