KOS - BEACHES

Kos is the island with the longest length of mild coastlines and beaches compared with the entire length of the coastline, probably in the whole Mediterranean. The two thirds of the coastline lead to either small or large beaches: with thick or fine sand, with small or larger pebbles, with green, turquoise or deep blue waters, with waves or tranquility, crowded or not, cosmopolitan and organized with umbrellas and water sports or quiet and secluded, with the sunset or the sunrise as background. There is no other place like Kos with such an easy access to the sea and pristine beaches. You can reach from any part of the island a beach in just a few minutes.

Agios Fokas

Kos (Town)
Proud holder of the 'Blue Flag' award , the beach of Agios Fokas combines white and black sand with beautiful pebbles. It is approximately 5 miles away from the town of Kos and just a mile away from the Therma beach. Offers several organized spots with umbrellas, infrastructure for water sports and the Beach Bar Agios Fokas. Those who are looking for a quiet spot to enjoy the beautiful scenery are sure to find it along this beautiful beach. It is reachable by using bus, taxis, car and bicycle.

Agios Stefanos

Kefalos
One of the most photographed beaches! It combines the beauty of nature with important historical sites such as the ruins of early Christian churches, which are just a few yards from the sea. The beautiful landscape is completed by Castri, a small rocky island, with diameter of 150 feet, just across the middle of the Gulf from where the small chapel of St. Nicholas emerges. Well organized, with large numbers of visitors, it offers several amenities and a variety of water sports. It is about 2 miles northeast of the village of Kefalos. Follow the road leading out of the village of Kefalos and turn right to the road that descends down to the beach.

Agios Theologos

One of the most remote beaches, named after the small chapel of St. John the Theologian located just feet away from the shore. The scenery you encounter is unique, a rocky coast with numerous bays that create a sense of isolation, perfect for endless hours of sunbathing. Water sports enthusiasts love this beach because of the gentle waves, perfect for windsurfing. The beach is not organized, so it is useful to equip oneself with the necessities. If you forget, there is a traditional restaurant nearby where you can taste delicious traditional dishes. Agios Theologos is on the other side of the island, about 4 miles west of the village of Kefalos. Driving there, watch the many sharp turns.

Faros

Kos (Town)
This sandy beach of Faros has perpetual large waves, due to the prevailing strong winds. It is organized. The beach owes its name to the lighthouse located nearby. It is the continuation of the beach of Lambi and spans 2 miles to the west. To reach it, follow the bicycle path that runs from the port and ends at the Lighthouse. Also, you can use the bus or your own vehicle.

Kamari

Kefalos
The main beach of Kefalos, Kamari, is one of the most famous beaches of the island. Quite long, it borders and continues to the beach of Laminas. It is about half a mile away from the village and about 25 miles from the town of Kos. The blue and cold waters are ideal for hot summer days. Easily accessible and well organized; Kamari covers the needs of all guests. One may enjoy swimming and the sun, but also participate in one of the many water sports. All along the beach runs a line of cafes and traditional taverns designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding palate! Access is easy, either with one of the frequent bus routes, or by private vehicle. Biking for the more adventurous is always an option.

Kohilari

Kefalos
A sandy beach, cut off from the other beaches of Kefalos, situated in the north side of the village. It is ideal for wind surfing and kite surfing on the high waves created by strong wind blowing ever-furious in the area. For those who do not engage in Kite Boarding but want to learn, one will find there one of the many schools of Kos' Kite boarding, at Kohilari Kite Center. To get there, turn right on the junction, just before the path to Kefalos.

Lagada Beach

Lagada beach is located near Kefalos and is ideal for families with children and couples, just as several other beaches in Kefalos. The golden sands and clear blue waters are ideal to relax on the sun loungers with parasols you will find there and take a swim. To find the beach is easy, since all you have to do is follow the sign from the main road that leads to Kefalos.

Lambi

Kos (Town)
One of the busiest beaches of the island, very popular thanks to its position, close to the city center. It is located on the west side of Kos town. The long sandy coast stretched half a mile until the island's port with beautiful sandy beach on one side and lush greenery on the other. Lambi has won Blue Flag for its clean water, but also for the number of services offered. It is suitable for everyone, families as well as couples. Along the road one encounters beach bars, malls water sports, and facilities for beach volley. During the day, it allows visitors the opportunity to relax, enjoy any of the many beach bars, and dabble in water sports. But in the evening, the area continues at a high pace, with several bars and restaurants. To get there one can take a bike on the bicycle path on the coastal side of Kos, or a private vehicle or one of the local buses.

Marmari

Marmari Beach is sandy with lovely blue sea. Organized for those who want to avoid the sun and relax on a sun lounger, there are spots to sunbathe and avoid the hassles. The beach provides many opportunities for water sports and is suitable for Kite Surfing, offering ideal conditions. Marmari has bars and restaurants, but also a small port where small boats can anchor. The beach is located 9 miles west of the city of Kos, named after its village. It is accessible by car, bike, taxi or by regular local bus service.

Mastichari

Kos Town
Mastichari beach is located 17 miles south of Kos town and 2 milkes northwest of Antimachia. Its white sand and emerald waters give this place the ultimate exotic atmosphere. At the center of the beach you will find plenty of colorful sun beds and umbrellas and some water sports facilities. A long tuft of trees lie on the surrounding area and provide an excellent spot for some cool shade. The settlement lies around the natural bay and offers plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops. It is usually busy during the day. The little port of the village offers daily connections to the island of Kalymnos. If you do not have your own vehicle, you can get there by taxi or bus from the town of Kos or through Antimachia and Mastichari.

Paradise Beach

Paradise is one of the most popular beaches in Kos, located 19 miles from Kos Town and 5 miles from Kefalos. Paradise beach stays true to its name preserving an excellent combination of white sand and crystalline waters that attracts many visitors. A sandy beach about 3.5 miles, crystal icy waters, and a landscape with a backdrop of lush cedar hills. It is worth visiting this beach for the famous air bubbles that come out from the shore formed by the volcano of the neighboring Nisyros Island. The beach is quite well-organized with umbrellas and sundecks and a water sport center. It is high on accommodation options and there are numerous taverns serving fresh fish and Greek cuisine. The beach is accessible by bus or just following the road to Kefalos.

Psalidi

The lovely beach of Psalidi is located 2 miles east of Kos Town, on the road leading to Agios Fokas and Thermes. This long beach consists of sand and pebbles and is quite well-organized with umbrellas and sundecks. For the more adventurous tourists, there are many water sports centers as well. Moreover, they have the opportunity to enjoy the Greek cuisine and fresh fish in the seaside taverns situated nearby. For your romantic walks in the beach, Agios Fokas is the perfect place with an amazing sunset and a wonderful view. You can reach Psalidi by bus, taxi, rented car or even bicycle.

Thermes

Kos (Town)
Thermes is one of the most idyllic places to visit in Kos. It is a beautiful sandy beach surrounded by steep cliff and dark clean waters, known for its hot springs. It is located 8 miles from Kos town. In front of the beach lies the famous sea pool with the hot springs, a rounded lake sheltered by rocks. In this pool, hot water mixes with the water coming from the sea and offers a natural warm bath. Thermes offers one of the most pleasurable experiences to relax your body and soul and a perfect therapeutic method for all visitors, especially those who suffer from muscle pains. On arrival, next to the parking area there are some places where travelers can sit and have a drink. After the parking lot, a road leads down to the beach; it usually takes about 5 minutes. The area is a much preferred destination among tourists and Greek travelers. Thermes can be reached by bus or by any private means of transportation.

Tigaki

Kos (Town)
Tigaki beach lies relatively close to the city of Kos, only 7 miles from the capital. The long sandy beach stretches for 6 miles all the way up to the Alyki, covering a huge area of white sand. The golden sand and the shallow waters make this beach very attractive especially for children. Along the coast are colorful sun beds and umbrellas while the beautiful scenery provides a mix of flowers and greenery that hugs the coast. Tigaki is a nice spot to practice your favorite water sports. Shops, bars, taverns and cafes are scattered around the surrounding area. The beach has received the Blue Flag award numerous times, not just for the quality of its waters but also for the level of services offered. Access from the city of Kos is easy using a local bus, a car or even a bicycle along the beach road from Lampi.
