The city is serviced by the Stefan cel Mare International Airport located 9 miles away from the city center of Suceava. The airport is very small with minimal services, there are taxis at the airport that can connect you to the city.

If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you have a few options to reach the city including taxis found outside the airport, bus service, or rental cars. The journey from the airport to the city center is relatively quick, and a taxi or bus ride should not cost too much.

Gara Burdujeni is the main train station in Suceava with connections to the city from larger cities in Romania such as Bucharest, Ploiesti, Buzau, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, and Iasi to name a few. The train station is located close to the city center and within walking distance of many of the hotels in the city, some taxis can be found outside the station.

Buses are the main form of public transportation in Suceava as well as trolleybuses that connect passengers to the main areas and tourist attractions. There are several routes and the city bus services offer 7 lines.

Lines 1 and 5: connect Itcani neighborhood and Suceava Nord Station to Center and Obcini neighborhoods. Line 10 is Itcani-Center-Scheia. Line 21 is Burdujeni Village-Center-Scheia. Line 28 is Burdujeni Village to Itcani (Suceava Nord station).

There are train connections to the city of Suceava, but no intercity trains.

There are several rental car companies found in Suceava. Renting a car when visiting the city is not necessary as there is public transportation in the city. If you wish to explore other cities in the country then having a car allows you the freedom to travel around. The city is well connected to other major cities in Romania by major highways.

Taxis and maxi taxis are available in Suceava. Taxis fares cost around 1.8 lei per 0.62 miles and a taxi is useful when traveling to sights and attractions outside the city center or at night. The city is relatively small and easily accessible on foot with many of the main attractions found in the center of the city.

Riding a bike in the city is possible, there are some nice areas to explore by bike and some great trails in the surrounding region.

There are several shopping opportunities in the city of Suceava with souvenir stalls, shopping centers, and markets to explore and purchase unique traditional Romanian items.

Suceava is a very safe destination for tourists with crimes against visitors being very rare. There are few other cities anywhere in the world that feel safer, there is plenty of police presence around town, especially in frequently visited tourist sights and attractions. Be aware of pickpockets in crowded areas especially on board public transport, don’t exchange money in the Change Bureaus, always use Banks. Keep your valuables close, be aware of your surroundings, and don’t wander around alone at night. If you rent a car be sure to take extra precautions and lock your vehicle and remove any valuables.

The official language spoken in Suceava is Romanian, the closest currently spoken relative to ancient Latin. Many people will also be able to speak French, Spanish, and Italian, and the Roma people will speak the native Romany. Many people speak English especially in the service industry at hotels and restaurants, and many locals speak Italian. We recommend you get a good English-Romanian guidebook and learn the common phrases such as hello, goodbye, please, thank you, and numbers 1-10.

Suceava features a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters, the best time of year to visit is said to be from late June to early September when the weather is pleasant and warm for outdoor activities. The temperatures in the city can vary dramatically, it is a more temperate climate compared to other destinations in the country. The hottest months of the year are July, August, and then June with temperatures reaching the mid to high 80s and rarely dropping below 61 at night. The winter temperatures can be freezing and filled with snow covers the region, it is a great destination for winter sports. Average temperatures during the winter are around 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

The currency of Romania is the Romania leu (RON or lei). You will need to exchange your currency for the Romanian leu, which can be done upon arrival at the airport currency exchange desks or banks and specialized stores called Foreign Exchange Bureaus.

There are many dining options in Suceava especially around the bustling city center, there are traditional restaurants, international fare, and fast food options.

Typical food in Romanian is made with meat, usually, pork with menus made up of several different types of pork dishes. Romanians enjoy comfort good, and Suceava is a great city for dining options with plenty of diversity and dozens of traditional Romanian restaurants. Many of these local restaurants are located in authentic historic buildings, some playing folk music or featuring folk dancing shows and serving up some of the countries finest cuisine. There are also plenty of international restaurants in the city whether you fancy Italian, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, French, Japanese, or Greek food they can all be found in Bucharest.

A few popular dishes in the city include sarmale, cabbage stuffed with spiced minced pork or beef. Mamaliga is a cornmeal porridge similar to polenta served with many main courses topped with sour cream and cheese. Covrigi is soft pretzels topped with salt or poppy seeds served hot on the streets of Bucharest. Mici (“small ones”) is made of combinations of ground meat and spices grilled on the barbecue, normally served with mustard and fresh bread. Ciroba de burta (Tripe soup) is a popular first course in Romania made with boiled beef tripe, vegetables, and served with sour cream, vinegar, and a garlic paste.

There is plenty to do in the city of Suceava at nighttime, wandering around the bustling city center will connect you with many restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. There are some great locations to sit outside and enjoy the warm summer nights in the city with great views and a fun atmosphere. There are shopping centers open at night and lots of entertainment options including the theatre and cinema, and some art exhibitions.
