The Arad International Airport is located 2.6 miles west of the city center. The alternative is Timisoara Airport is located 37 miles away from the city offering regular express bus services.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you have a few options at the airport to reach your destination including rental cars, taxis, and buses.

How do I get around by train in Arad?

The Arad Railway Station is located 1.24 miles north of the city center. Trams #1 and 3 connect the train station with downtown Arad. There are taxis available outside the station.

How do I get from the bus station to my hotel?

The main bus station is in the Atrium Center located on Aurel Vlaicu Blvd, just west of the railway station and 1.50 miles away from the city center. Many hotels will be within walking distance of the station. Taxis are available and you can walk to the train station for further transport options.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

The main forms of transportation in Arad are trams and buses, with 15 tram routes and 18 bus routes to connect you to the city’s main areas and tourist attractions. Buses and trams run through the town making several stops.

Should I rent a car in Arad?

Renting a car if staying solely in Arad is not necessary as many of the city’s sights and attractions can be reached on foot or by buses or trams. If you plan to travel to other city’s and destinations in Romania having a car allows you to travel and visit these locations on your own.

Arad is a very safe destination for tourists with crimes against visitors being very rare. There are few other cities anywhere in the world that feel safer, there is plenty of police presence around town, especially in frequently visited tourist sights and attractions. Be aware of pickpockets in crowded areas and onboard public transport, don’t exchange money in the Change Bureaus, always use Banks. Keep your valuables close, be aware of your surroundings, and don’t wander around alone at night. If you rent a car be sure to take extra precautions and lock your vehicle and remove any valuables.

There are shopping opportunities found in the city center where visitors can find the usual souvenir shops along with authentic local shops. There are two market areas in the city where visitors can shop for fresh fruit, and vegetables, and other day-to-day items. There are several shoppping centers on the outskirts of Arad including Metro, Selgros, Billa, the Atrium Center, and Kaufland. Two of the largest shopping malls in the city are at The Atrium Center and Galleria with stores such as HandM, and Adidas.

What is the language spoken in Arad?

The official language spoken in Arad is Romanian, the closest currently spoken relative to ancient Latin. The climate in Arad is continental boasting warm, hot summer and damp, cold winters, the summer months offer temperatures that average between 80-90 degrees F for June, July, and August. The average temperature in the coldest month of January is around 31 F, and the temperatures during the summer months can be intense with high heat and humidity. The best months to visit are said to be May through September with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The currency of Romania is the Romania Leu (RON or lei). You will need to exchange your currency for the Romanian Leu, which can be done upon arrival at the airport currency exchange desks or banks and specialized stores called Foreign Exchange Bureaus.

What is the food like?

There are some great places to eat in Arad with many restaurants offering a range of different cuisines including authentic Romanian food, Hungarian dishes, Turkish, Mediterranean fare, Italian, Arabic, and other international varieties including popular fast food joints like Mcdonalds, and KFC. There’s a wonderful assortment of restaurants and cafes dotted along Revolutiei Bvd just south of the City Hall.

The local cuisine in Arad has many Turkish influences due to the many Ottomans in the region, some of the most popular local dishes including ciorba, a soup made with meat and vegetables, and sarmale cabbage rolls stuffed with spiced meat, rice, and vegetables.
