WHY TODI?

Todi is a picturesque medieval hill town surrounded by Roman and Etruscan walls. Although it's a hill town, its center at the top of the hill is flat. The central piazza, Piazza del Popolo, was built above Roman cisterns, and was the site of the Roman forum. Here, you'll find the Palazzo del Popolo, one of Italy's oldest public buildings. Other noteworthy sites are the Palazzo del Capitano, a grand building housing the Etruscan-Roman Museum and the Pinacoteca (art museum), the Duomo, Tempio di San Fortunato, built in 1292 with 13th and 14th century frescoes and the tomb of Jacopone da Todi, a medieval poet and mystic, Santa Maria della Consolazione, one of central Italy's best Renaissance churches, Santa Maria in Camuccia, erected in the 7th-8th centuries between the two Roman perimeter walls, that has an archaeological excavation underneath the church, San Nicolo' de Cryptis, built in 1093 on the site of the Roman amphitheater, and Piazza del Mercato Vecchio.
