WHY THESSALONIKI?

Thessaloniki is Greece's second-largest city and the capital of the Greek region of Macedonia. This is a city filled with Byzantine churches and chapels, many of which have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as some Ottoman, and Jewish structures, a city with squares built around Roman palaces, whose markets pulse with life. It's famous for its picturesque restaurants and tavernas and for its vibrant nightlife. Thessaloniki is also known for its bougatsa delicacy, which can be found in specialty stores on just about every corner of the city. This beautiful town was founded in 315 BC by King Cassander of Macedon on the site of a former settlement named Therma. He named it after his wife Thessalonike, the half-sister of Alexander the Great.
