Tirana, located in the center of Albania, is the country`s capital and home to one-sixth of Albania`s population. Tirana is Albania`s most important city with regard to politics, commerce, and culture.

Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a cultural hub in the Balkans. During its four-century rule by the Ottomans, it became one of the most multicultural cities in Europe.

One of the oldest capital cities in Europe, Sofia dates back to the 8th century BCE. Its landmarks reflect more than 2,000 years of history, including Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet occupations.

Known as the `City of Museums`, as there are more of them per square foot than any other city in the world, Zagreb is the cultural, scientific, economic, political and administrative center of Croatia.

Skopje is the capital and largest city of North Macedonia. This vibrant city is one of the oldest in the Balkans, having been settled for six millennia, but its glittering appearance is much newer.

Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, sits at the confluence of two rivers, the Ribnica and the Moraca. Inhabited since the Stone Age, Montenegro`s cultural and economic epicenter has been ruled not just by the Montenegrins but also by the Ottomans and the Serbs.

Once known as the "Little Paris", Bucharest, Romania`s capital, is known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, and glorious Belle Époque buildings.

One of Europe`s oldest cities, Belgrade`s wider city area was the birthplace of the largest prehistoric culture of Europe, the Vinca culture. Nowadays, it is the central economic hub of Serbia, and the capital of Serbian culture, education and science.

Ljubljana, long overlooked by American travelers in favor of adjacent European capitals like Vienna and Budapest, is now a city on the rise. Visitors only need a few moments to walk the pedestrian-only streets in the city center to feel the old-world historic charm.
