Shannon or Shannon Town, named after the river near which it stands, is a town in County Clare, Ireland. It was given town status on 1 January 1982. It was intended as a home for the thousands of workers at the airport. Just three miles to the east, lays the famous village Bunratty with its castle, medieval banquets and Folk Park. Town Centre offers shopping, and a variety of pubs and restaurants. To the south footpaths lead along the shores of the estuary, rich in bird life - from autumn to spring it is one of the most important wild bird sites in Ireland. The town is located just off the N19 road, a spur of the N18/M18 road between Limerick and Ennis. Limerick is just 30 minutes away from Shannon Airport and a more charming place to stay.
