Sesriem is the gateway to the sweeping wilderness of the Namib Desert. Moreover, cavernous canyons and red dunes mark the landscape, where sunsets are more vivid, the sky bigger, and the stars brighter. Believe it or not, through its gates you’ll find Sossusvlei, an (almost always) bone-dry salt and clay pan that’s flanked by some of the tallest dunes around the world. In southern Namibia at Sesriem, the Tsauchab River has carved a wide path into the dunes toward the coast. As a matter of fact, the river never reaches the sea as its blocked by a wide range of mountains of sand. It spreads into pans, surrounded by curving dunes.
