The spectacular area is an important global geological phenomenon, comprised of some 40,000 large, regularly shaped polygonal columns of basalt in perfect horizontal sections, forming a pavement. It is protected by UNESCO not only for its beauty but also because its cliffs, seashores, marshes, and grasslands are home to more than 50 species of birds, as well as more than 200 species of plants.

From here you can easily day trip to the Giants Causeway, a volcanic formation of thousands of hexagonal rocks, situated about an hour away.
