The best of Greece!.. From the capital city, Athens (the cradle of civilization and home of democracy), take a flight to Mykonos (known for shopping, beach parties, and the very photogenic Mykonos Town and its windmills) and then, via ferry/hydrofoil visit Santorini (recognizable for its whitewashed, cube-shaped buildings adorned with blue accents, steep cliffs and tangerine sunsets that light up the sky and sea). Fly back to Athens and from there, with a Rental Car drive along The Peloponnense Region, visiting: Olympia (the ancient Greek Sanctuary site dedicated to the worship of Zeus) and after that, Delphi (with its world-famous Oracle of Delphi and Temple of Apollo). Continue this trip driving to Kalambaka (a region full of impressive, massive rock formations and with one of the most important religious complexes in Greece: Meteora with its byzantine monasteries perched on top of steep rocks). Finally, visit Thessaloniki (renowned for its festivals, events and vibrant cultural life in general, and is considered to be Greece`s cultural capital). This is a flexible vacation package. Greece is THE land of ancient sites and architectural treasures: the Acropolis in Athens, the amphitheater of Epidaurus, the reconstructed palace at Knossos, the belly button of the cosmos at Delphi, fallen columns galore on the sacred island of Delos, and frescoed Minoan palaces on Crete. But don't expect a visit there to be a sober study of the ancient world, the Greek propensity for partying dates back to Dionysus. Then there are 1400 islands to explore. Greece is much more than what you were taught at school or the predictable summer image of glorious sunsets and sandy beaches.
