VILLACH - GETTING AROUND

By Walking

It is easy to get around Villach on foot, most of the city is within reach. Hauptstrasse is the Main Street in Villach and the main pedestrian walkway that is bounded by tightly packed row buildings, each painted different colors. The side streets are built in a circle or semi-circle around the main street. Surrounding all this is the remnants of the old city wall, some of which is now just the outside wall of some downtown buildings. Most of this area is pedestrian-only and walking is the only and best way to see it.

By Taxi

Taxis can be found near the railway station and in the center of the city near Hauptplatz.

By Train

The Stadtbahn makes it is easy to get around Villach all year round. There are five stops in the Villach area - Hauptbahnhof-Gleis 8 (Villach-Lind), Westbahnhof, St. Ruprecht, Seebach, and Warmbad. The Stadtbahn runs late at night and has a half-hour to hourly service.

By Bus

If you plan on traveling a short distance in the Villach area, the bus is most likely your best option. There are two bus transit options in Villach: PostBus and Kowatsch. Be aware that the bus service does not typically run late at night and some bus routes do not operate on Sundays or holidays. Be sure to check the bus timetables before you travel.

Local busline no. 10 (operated by Kowatsch) goes around the historic city center.

By Car

Getting around by car is not necessary and not recommended. Parking spaces are hard to come by during the week and traffic jams at business hours are very common. During weekdays parking fees are charged in most areas around the center of the city.

If you wish to park close to your destination you are advised to park in one of the multi-storey car parks in the center of town. On-street parking in Villach is available in the city center at a cost Monday - Friday from 8 am - 6 pm and Saturday from 8am - 10 am. The maximum stay is 3 hours and the parking rate is around €0.50/30 min. The first 20 minutes are free of charge.

For longer-term parking in the city center, the best option is the car parks. Parking rates start at around €1.20 to € 1.50 per hour.
