City Center

The historic city center is a recognized UNESCO world heritage site with many of the major attractions found in the vicinity. The inner area of the city center is actually quite small, about 2 miles across. Right at the center of Bruges is Grote Markt, which is a large square and is surrounded by many touristic restaurants and gift shops, and anchored by the 272 ft high Belfry Tower. The center offers many of the city`s most important museums and historic sites, including the Groeninge and the various Bruggemuseums. With the city center closed off to cars, everything here can easily be explored on foot, but you will also have easy access to public transportation being in the heart of the city during your stay.
