Old Town (City Wall)
The true historical center of the city, inside the old city walls, is the best place to stay to admire the medieval character of the city`s architecture. It is almost exactly what you imagine an old Italian city to be like. Staying within the old town will allow you to be an easy walk of all the main attractions such as the Piazz del Campo, Piazza del Duomo and Forteza Medicea. The historic center is surrounded by its ancient ramparts constructed between the 14th and 16th centuries. These walls follow the contours of the three hills on which the city is built in. The historic center is ideal for strolling and also offers numerous restaurants and shops. The bus station can also be found within the inside of the city walls, whereas the train station is further form the historic center in the more modern part of the city (about a 15 minute walk).
City Center (New Town)
Staying in the city center (new town) will allow you easy access to all the main tourist attractions, generally within minutes walking distance. This area is situated in a zone with ample parking, and can easily be reached by car. You will also be close to many restaurants, cafes, bars and shops within the surrounding area of these hotels. Links to public transportation can be reached within a few minutes on foot.
Outskirts
Close to the famous square are the residential areas of Siena. Since the city is relatively small, you will never be far from the city center, so do not hesitate to stay in the outskirts of the city center, especially if accommodations are too expensive within the center of town. Some of the outskirt neighborhhods include Tognazza, Belverde, Ascarello, Val di Pugna, Cerchiaia, Costalpio, Tolfe, etc. Staying in the outskirts also allows you to enjoy the beautiful green landscape of the area. Most of these hotels, or can be easily accessed by public transportation. We recommend checking with the specific hotels when booking a hotel in the outskirts of town.
