GRINDELWALD - HOTEL ZONES

City Center

The small town of Grindelwald is situated in a great location for easy train access with lots of hotels right near the main train station (there is a second station called Grundy outside the center), as well as many restaurants. The tourist town is nestled in a valley surrounded by large mountains, mainly the famous trio, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and is a perfect starting point for all excursions in the area. Also, if you plan to stay in the limits of Grindelwald, you will not need a car, the train (or local bus) will get you anywhere you want to go and it is much easier to get to food and shops. Make sure to get a hotel with a view - the mountainscape is absolutely breathtaking!

Note that Grindelwald is hilly. If your hotel is somewhere along the streets Dorfstrasse or Spillstattstrasse, the altitude difference during your walk to the station is mostly insignificant. Hotels farther away from these streets could be up to 325 ft up or down the hill. There are buses and taxis to get to your hotel though.

Outskirts

Staying in the outskirts of Grindelwald also boasts for stunning views of the Bernese Alps. Depending on the location of your hotel, you may have to take a bus or taxi to reach the conveniences of the city center. We recommend you double check the location of the hotel, some are just a short walk away to the city center and will be near bus stops. Staying in the outskirts can be a good way to get the most out of a limited budget, provided your plans are a bit more flexible.

The towns next door, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen, are quieter. Lauterbrunnen is on the valley floor surrounded by straight-sided stone walls, Wengen is up the hill of that valley.
