Bundesgasse

The area of Bundesgasse is about a 15 minute walk from the main train station. Countless shops, restaurants, bars and clubs are located in the immediate vicinity. The hotels located in this area are close to the city center and have easy access to transportation.

Langgasstrasse-Mittlestrasse

The Langgasstrasse-Mittlestrasse area is centrally located and a popular neighborhood with many University buildings located in Länggasse, offering a lively student atmosphere. Staying in this area is convenient to central station (just about an 8-10 minutes away), and a short walk to the attractions in Bernese Old Town. The Langgasstrasse-Mittlestrasse also offers many traditional restaurants and bars in the immediate area. You will also find public transportation is close by.

Old Town

The old town of Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bustling, commercial city center radiates out from that train station. Situated on a cliff surrounded on three sides by the beautiful waters of the Aare River, the old town has preserved much of its medieval character. The streets are cobbled and bordered by covered, arcade sidewalks that weave on for miles. On the lower levels of the buildings are shops, cafés, bookstores, and restaurants, while the upper floors are apartments. All the areas of Old Town are easily explored on foot and where you will find a majority of the sights and attractions. The cluster of museums in Kirchenfeld, on the south side of the river, is a short (spectacular) walk or tram ride away.

Outskirts

The outskirts hotels or neighboring towns are also within easy reach by public transport, e.g. Bremgarten, Ostermundigen, Köniz, Wabern, Zollikofen, Ittigen etc. The hotels in the outskirts are generally situated in a quiet, residential area just a few minutes outside the hustle and bustle of downtown. Double check the location of any of the outskirt hotels, some are just a short walk away to the city and will be near bus stops if you want the option of taking public transportation. Staying in the outskirts can be a good way to get the most out of a limited budget, provided your plans are a bit flexible. Just make sure you have good public transportation connections close to the hotel so you can still get around with ease.
