SYRACUSE - HOTEL ZONES

City Center

When staying in the city center, you`ll be only a few blocks away from the Ortygia and its various attractions. The Syracuse Central Railway Station is located about a five minute walk from most hotels. The city`s main archaeological zone, which includes the Greek Theatre, Ear of Dinoysus and Archimede`s tomb, is approximately about a mile from this area as well. The city center allows for easy access to the local tourist attractions, shops, restaurants and bars.

Ortygia

Ortygia is Syracuse`s ancient historical (and scenic) center located on a small island. The island, also known as Città Vecchia (Old City), is located at the eastern end of Syracuse and is separated from it by a narrow channel. Two bridges connect the island to mainland Sicily. Here, you`ll find many historical landmarks including the Cathedral of Syracuse, Piazza del Duomo, Piazza Archimede and Fountain or Arethusa. Ortygia is also an extremely popular place for tourism, shopping, entertainment and also a residential area. This is also almost an entirely pedestreanized area.

Outskirts

Staying in the outskirts of Syracuse offers a more quiet countryside environment allowing for relaxation and culture. Generally speaking, hotels offered in the outskirts are only two to three miles away from the city center of Syracuse, with its various attractions, as well as the Syracuse Central Railway Station. These hotels are typically anywhere from a few blocks to a 15 - 20 walk from the coast. You will find the Archaeological Park to be about a 20 minute walk as well. The outskirts are a great option if you have a car, as many of these accommodations offer complimentary parking and are a short distance away from public transportation.
