AMMAN - GETTING AROUND

Taxis are readily available in Amman, you can find them just about anywhere. Hail a cab from the street, find one outside major attractions and transport stations or call and order one by phone. There are yellow, grey and white (shared) taxis operating in the city, yellow taxis have a green logo on the driver`s side and passenger doors and grey taxis have an advertisement on the top of the vehicle. Fares are usually metered and relatively cheap with journeys starting at JOD0.30 and go up JOD0.4 every 0.62 miles. A 40% rate increase will occur from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am.

By Careem and Uber

Careem is a service that is available in Amman where you can order a taxi through the app on your Smartphone. The service operates just like UBER which is also available in Amman. Simply download the apps on your Smartphone and enter the required information.

By Bus

The major bus company operating in the city of Amman is JETT bus (Jordan Express Tourist Transport). The JETT bus station is located close to the King Abdullah Mosque. Buses do operate routes around the city; however, it is almost easier and cheaper to use a taxi for getting around. Buses are a more popular option for traveling to other cities, fares are relatively low with short journeys starting around JOD0.50 and going up for longer journeys. By Foot

Amman is a great city to walk around and see the ancient sights of the city built on seven hills (today there are more than 20). Visit `Al Balad` the oldest neighborhood in the city, filled with interesting sights and a great spice market. Walk around Jabal Amman decorated with quaint coffee shops and beautiful surroundings. Most of the city is built on hills and connected by steep flights of stairs which can be quite strenuous; you can always get a taxi to the highest point and make your way down on foot. Rainbow Street is a famous vibrant street in the city adorned with a colorful canopy of umbrellas where restaurants and shops can be found.

By Bicycle

You can ride a bicycle in Amman, however, the city is built on several hills making cycling a bit strenuous. The heat also makes it a difficult task, so be sure to carry plenty of water, wear sunscreen and go early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the mid-day sun.
