City Center

The city center, or downtown area of Cairo, is the commercial heart of the modern city. This area is centered around Midan Talaat Harb up to Midan Ataba and includes the landmark of Tahrir Square or `Liberation Square`. In this neighborhood, visitors will find hotels including the Ritz Carlton (previously the Hilton), along with shops, restaurants, transportation and a few attractions such as the Egyptian Museum of Cairo. The bustling area of downtown offers wide tree-lined boulevards, authentic architecture and a vibrant atmosphere. Head to the city center for dining and nightlife options along with easy and convenient access to the other areas of the city. The area is also a popular fashion and residential district and was once nicknamed the `Paris of the East` in the 19th century. One of the most historic places in downtown, and a renowned landmark of the city, is `Café Riche`, which was established in 1908.

Giza

The Giza district is where the world famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, `The Pyramids of Giza` and `The Great Sphinx` can be found. The neighborhood pf Giza stretches from the west banks of the River Nile to the desert plateau west of the city center. The area sits in a valley below the pyramids and is centered on Pyramids Road, which links Cairo to the ancient world. There are many popular hotels in the area including The Meridien, Sofitel Le Sphinx and The Mena House, as well as numerous restaurants and shops. The journey from here to downtown Cairo takes around 30 minutes.
