CARCASSONNE - GETTING AROUND

For short journeys in Carcassonne city center, the bus company Agglo runs a service. Agglo bus 4 runs every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday, hourly on Sunday, from the train station to La Cite main entrance at Porte Narbonnaise. The journey takes about 10 minutes. A single ticket costs about €1; a day ticket is around €2.60.

In July and August there is a tourist train shuttle (on wheels) between Ville Basse and the old city every 10 minutes (About €2 single journey - €3 day return).

Buses to Carcassonne are mainly a local service. There is a Network of 11 bus routes serving the city and surrounding areas.

By Walking

Walking is the best way to get around the city and to truly experience the city. The main tourist sites in Carcassonne are situated within an easy walking distance of each other. You can choose to walk the Cité on your own without paying entrance for most of the medieval city. You only have to pay to visit the area of the Château Comtal (around €10).

By Bike

In Carcassonne you can cycle along the Canal Midi that offers trails both ways (east/west) among other more rural options and paths around the city. There are several of bike rental locations that can found throughout the city.

By Taxi

There is a taxi stand outside the railway station and at the Bd Omer Sarraut, one block down from the station. By Car

Finding parking in Carcassonne can be a challenge. There is a parking area in front of the main entrance to the city but you do have to pay. Here is a list of parking options around Carcassonne.

There are 3 parking areas by the medieval city:

Parking P1 - Cheminde Montlegun, 437 yards from the Medieval City on the side of Narbonnaise gate entrance.
Parking P0 - Cars + Disability vehicles (12 spaces) + Hotel guest parking - on the side of the Narbonnaise gate entrance. If you are staying in the medieval city you should contact your hotel directly to find out what parking is available and the terms and conditions.
Parking P2 - Rue Dujardin Beaumetz, on the side of the Aude gate entrance. There are 3 parking areas by the Bastied St Louis:
