Day 1 in St Raphael

Welcome to the Saint-Raphael! Upon arrival, head to your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do.

Begin the afternoon with a pleasant lunch in any of the charming cafes throughout town. Afterward, we recommended that you get acquainted with the city by strolling through the historical Old Town. Here you will find the Eglise San Rafeu, dating back from the 12th-century church; it`s the third church to stand on this site and the only intact ancient structure in Saint-Raphael. A watchtower sits atop one of the chapels which you can climb for magnificent 360-degree panoramic views of the town. Your walk around town will reveal some stunning buildings from the18th and 19th centuries, one of the most impressive being the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Victoire. The church was built mostly in pink sandstone from the Esterel Mountain range, on its façade there is a statue of the archangel Saint-Raphael, protector of the town.

Next, head over to the modern Vieux Port area and wander through the lovely Jardin Bonaparte gardens. Continue east along the sea front from the center of Saint-Raphael to another harbor area called Saint Lucia. As you follow the coastal path you will come to Boulouris and a selection of smaller beaches.

As night approaches make your way to the Casino Barriere de Saint-Raphael and try your luck at the many slot machines or gaming tables. The casino offers entertainment all year round, two restaurants, and three bars.

Day 2 in St Raphael

Start your day off early at place Victor Hugo (Provencal Market) where you`ll find regional products of produce, fish, meats, estate wines and cheeses, as well as local artists and painters. Afterward, head to the harbor for a boat tour of the magnificent Esterel Coves, it`s a beautiful way to see the coastline from a different perspective.

Once you arrive back to the harbor spend some time meandering through the many shops and enjoy lunch at one of the charming cafes here. Then head over to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology to check out the interesting display of ships` anchors, ancient diving equipment and other objects and items recovered from the ocean`s depths.

Alternatively, if you are looking for more adventure, take a hike or bike ride in the Route du Mimosa (scenic path) to enjoy some extraordinary scenery and natural beauty of the Mediterranean. There is a great deal to discover in the regions - especially the colors, with the contrast between the yellow of the mimosas and the blue of the sea - and also the lovely smells of the flowers.

As night approaches make your way to one of the many beautiful beaches for sunset. Then enjoy dinner at one of the delicious restaurants around town. Or, enjoy the evening market located along the entire waterfront between Frejus and Saint-Raphael during the summer months. The night market is a pleasant place to walk at night, shop and eat an ice cream.

Day 3 in St Raphael

Spend your last day exploring Saint-Raphael`s twin town Frejus (the two practically form a single town). Take the one-and-a-half mile stroll down along the connecting sea front, turning inland for the last gentle incline into Frejus. The ancient city of Frejus was founded in 49 by Julius Cesar and benefits from a rich artistic, cultural, historical and architectural heritage.

Once you arrive, head to the biggest amphitheater in Gaul, the Roman theatre that once accommodated 10,000 spectators. It mostly hosted gladiator fights and wild beast hunts. Today, this building comes to life every summer with large concerts, dance floors, and various performances. From here wander through the town filled with impressive ancient remains and monuments that include the Port Deoree, the Porte des Gaules, the Cocteau Chapel, the latern of Augustus (remains of the ancient Roman port), and the Gallic door to name a few.

Alternatively, for relaxation, stroll along the scenic Santa Lucia port, located in Saint-Raphael and sunbathe on the beautiful beaches. Saint-Raphael is part of the protected maritime zone of Cap Roux. Along the coastline, there are a wide variety of beaches to choose from. You may also want to partake in the many aquatic sports offered such as wind surfing, water-skiing, and kayaking.

Additional Days in St Raphael

Should you be able to spend additional days in Saint-Raphael, take a scenic boat ride to Saint-Tropez. The town is one of the most luxurious places in France with mega-yachts, glamour, celebrities, white sandy beaches, exclusive clubs and beautiful art all at once. Spend some time wandering around the medieval Old Town, lined with stone houses that hold boutiques and charming cafes.
