MENTON - HOTEL ZONES

Old Port

Old Port is at the foot of the old town and dominated by the Saint-Michel Basilica. The `Bastion,` which houses the Jean Cocteau museum, shows the port entrance. There are numerous shops and restaurants along the dock. Here you can enjoy walking along the promenade and around the harbor with beautiful views of the bay and mountains behind. Just a few minutes away from the Old Port is the large Sablettes beach.

Old Town

Old Town, le Viewx Menton, has an active pedestrian area, with the long Rue St Michel running the length of it and the Rue Pieta joining. Full of shop, cafes and very colorful buildings with steep cobbled medieval steps and alleyways that are dark, narrow and winding. On rue Saint-Michel is the basilica of the same name, a baroque church with a landmark bell tower. A little further on is the ornate Chapelle des Penitents Blancs, and right at the top of Old Town you come to the cemetery on rue du Vieux Chateau. Viewed from the sea front at the east, this area has the appearance of a hilltop perched village.
