KEFALONIA - BEACHES

Myrtos

Myrtos is without doubt one of the most important beaches in Kefalonia. It is located 19 miles north of Argostoli, in a beautiful area around huge verdant hills. Myrtos beach has gained worldwide reputation and has been constantly included in travel magazines among the best beaches in Greece and in the world. It has been awarded many times for its cleanness and the natural beauty. The beach has a semi-circular shape surrounded by impressive white rocky cliffs with lush vegetation on top of them creating a spectacular setting. The lush green area, the abrupt terrain, the white pebbles and the crystal waters compose a stunning scenery. The beach is well-organized with umbrellas and sundecks while a small part remains completely unspoiled, ideal for total isolation. The natural beauty of Myrtos is the trademark of Kefalonia and one of the most photographed places in Greece. It is affected by the strong winds. The western coast of Myrtos offers spectacular sunset views. visitors have direct access to a wide range of facilities and a nice snack bar offering cold drinks. Myrtos is easily accessed by all means of transport. While descending to the beach, you will enjoy some amazing views from above.

Antisamos

Antisamos beach is arguably one of the most favorable destinations for swimming and sunbathing in Kefalonia. It is located 17 miles east from Argostoli and pretty close to the port of Sami. Antisamos offers natural beauty with turquoise waters, marvelously surrounded by green hills and lush vegetation. A beach like this could be nothing but well-organized with umbrellas and sundecks. It is this stunning scenery that characterizes this area and captivates all visitors. Antisamos has gained worldwide reputation from the Hollywood movie Captain Corelli`s Mandolin, as some of the scenes were filmed there. It is easily accessed from a coastal road in Sami. Behind the hill there is a great spot for sunbathers and nature lovers. Apart from the beach, the monastery of Agrillion stands on top of the hill and is worth visiting.

Makris Gialos

Makris Gialos is a nice tourist resort that lies around a beautiful and crystalline bay. It is located 3 miles south of Argostoli. It is one of the most frequented beaches of Kefalonia, popular for its shiny golden sand, the azure and clean waters. Similar to most of the island`s beaches, Makris Gialos boasts a stunning landscape with dense vegetation and tall pine trees. Some rock formations are scattered creating an exotic atmosphere. Due to its close proximity to the main town, Makris Gialos has become very popular for tourists and Greek travelers. During the summer, the well-organized beach is a famous meeting point. It is easily accessed by all means of transport. There is a beach bar and a water sports center available.

Skala

The small fishing village of Skala sits on the southern tip of Kefalonia near Mounda bay. It is known for its beautiful layout and long sandy beach bordered by dense bush hills and rocky outcrops, a unique combination that captivates many visitors. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for its cleanness and organization. Skala gets quite crowded during the summer season but you can still find a secluded spot for some quiet moments. The beach is ideal for snorkeling while excursion boats depart to the nearby islets and isolated coves. On the main street of the settlement, right above the beach are plenty of restaurants and cafes, mini markets and other modern amenities.

Lourdas

Lourdas is a quaint coastal settlement located 10 miles southeast of Argostoli. The settlement stands on the hillside overlooking the blue sea. The beach is surrounded by a green landscape with thick vegetation and beautiful waterfalls running through the mountains. The combination of the crystalline waters and stunning mountain backdrop of Mount Aenos provides a dream scenery that captivates all visitors. The beach is covered with white sand and two rows of sun beds and colorful umbrellas. Right above is the main road of Skala filled with plenty of restaurants, cafes, local shops and other modern amenities. It is easily accessed with public buses from Argostoli and other villages. Not far from the coast lies the Monastery of Sissia.

Foki

Foki (seal in Greek) is easily accessed within a five minute drive from the busy village of Fiscardo. Foki is one of the most picturesque spots in Kefalonia known for its dreamy landscape with olive tree forests that come down to the beach and offer natural shade. It is the home to many seals (the reason for its name). The area consists of small strips of pebbles with a stunning view to the crystal clear waters. On the right side of the beach, a beautiful path leads to uncountable caves and coves that captivate all visitors. There are no tourist facilities but the natural landscape offers relaxing and peaceful moments. Right above the beach is a little fish tavern. The beach is a much preferred destination for private yachts.

Platis Gialos

Platis Gialos is located right next to Makris Gialos and is quite known for its unspoiled beauty. It consists of white sand and crystalline waters. It is one of the most famous beaches of Kefalonia, in close distance to Argostoli. The area is surrounded by a beautiful environment of lush green hills and thick vegetation. The beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag for its cleanness and fine organization. On the beach, you will find sunbeds and a snack bar.
