KOS - GETTING THERE

By Air

There are up to five flights daily between Athens and Kos in each direction. Beware of their new baggage policies, the cheapest fares have, as default setting, no checked baggage allowed.

Kos Island International Airport
Kos Island International Airport, also known as Hippocrates Airport, is located near Andimachia village and lies about 16 miles from Kos Town.

The easiest way to get to the city is to catch a taxi, which is available from the airport arrival gate but they are quite expensive.

Bus is your best option, you can head out to the big roundabout outside the airport gate and catch the orange and cream colored KTEL bus. En route to Kos, the bus stops at Mastihari, Kardhamena and Kefalos. Tickets have very reasonable prices and available on board. It usually takes about 25 minutes for the bus to travel from the city center to the airport.

By Ferry

The main port for ferry services is in Kos Town.

Ferries from Piraeus to Kos leave daily in the summer season and 3 or 4 times a week in the off season, usually in the early evening, with consequent very early morning arrivals. Islands on the same route may include Sýros, Náxos, Páros, Amorgós, Santoríni, Pátmos, Léros, Kálymnos and Rhodes, though usually you get `semi-direct` services that omit some or most of these.

Excursion boats leave most mornings for the nearby islands of Níssyros, Psérimos, Platý and Kálymnos, though if you want to spend a full day on Psérimos you can only do this from Kálymnos. Most years there is usually a subsidized minor ferry route from Kos town to Níssyros and Tílos, much cheaper than either the excursion boats or the catamarans.

For Bodrum in Turkey, there can be up to 3 or 4 daily (2 morning, 2 afternoon) departures.
