CHICLANA - BEACHES

Playa de Sancti-Petri

This popular beach stretches 1.5 miles from the puerto deportivo of Sancti Petri to the old watch tower, Torre de la Bermeja. The sand is fine and golden with plenty of sand dunes and pine forests to explore to the east of the Punta de las Piedras. A new seaside residential development on the coast just to the south-west of Chiclana, has become the town`s summer resort. It has some fantastic beaches, which are great for all the family. The resort is built around a 36-hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros and has stunning views of the sea. You can also enjoy a wide variety of other sports and there is even a purpose built bicycle lane throughout the resort. There are many shops catering for your every need, including lots of little boutique shops, plus a wide choice of bars and restaurants.

Thanks to the currents between this beach and Playa del Castillo, it is very popular sport for wind-related sports. There is a water sports center offering rental and classes for every kind of marine activity: you can learn to sail, surf, wakeboard (waterskiing on a board), windsurf, kitesurf, kite landboarding (kitesurfing on a board along the sand), kayak and scuba dive; pedal boat and banana hire are also available for younger ones; and nature-lovers will enjoy the guided canoeing and paddle-surfing (sitting on a surfboard and paddling yourself along) expeditions around the marismas. The beach has been awarded a blue flag by the European Union for its high standards of cleanliness and excellent facilities, including toilets, showers, parking, lifeguards, kiosks and restaurants.

Just off the coast near the town, opposite the village of Sancti Petri, is the small island (islote) of Sancti Petri, with a magnificent 17th-century castle built over the ruins of Phoenician and Roman temples. You can take a ferry to visit the island in summer.

Playa de la Barrosa

La Barrosa is just five minutes away from Chiclana and is considered one of the best on the Andalucian coast, thanks to its fine sand, clear waters and the pine trees and beautiful sand dunes that back the southern part of the beach. The 4 mile length of beach is a continuation of Playa de Sancti Petri stretches past Novo Sancti Petri to the Torre de Puerco and attracts many visitors, particularly during July and August. It is possible to partake in guided horse rides along the water here. It is also a well-known spot for those who want to surf during the winter season. The beach is fully-equipped with parking, toilets, showers, changing rooms, restaurants, kiosks, sun loungers and umbrellas to hire, a paseo maritime and motor boats for hire. These excellent facilities have been awarded a blue flag by the European Union.

El Puerco

Also known as Playa de la Loma del Puerco, this beach is a continuation of Playa de la Barrosa and it is distinguishable by a cliff towards one end. Like the previous beaches, the sand is fine and golden with plenty of hedges and vegetation. During the spring season there are beautiful flowers here. The water here has a moderate current. The beach is equipped with parking (for some of which there is a charge), seasonal lifeguards, showers, toilets and one restaurant.
