BRATISLAVA - GETTING AROUND
Trams are the most popular and fastest way to get around the city using public transportation. They are reliable and on time and typically run between 5 am to 11:30 pm. Trams are ideal for city center and inner-city routes.
Apps are available for both Android and iOS to see timetables for all public transportation. Most of the line stops of the public transport are comprehensively marked, including the name of the stop, and the timetable with a list of all its destinations.
Walking is a great way to explore the Old Town and riverside area. The historical center is compact and pedestrian-friendly, with most attractions within walking distance.
By Bus & Trolleybuses
If you are traveling to a small city or village close to Bratislava, the SAD buses are the best mode of transportation. These buses start their route at AS Mlynské Nivy. This is a different service than the public transport in Bratislave, the tickets are bought directly from the bus driver, so you have to enter via the front door.
The Trolley-Buses have some routes in the city center, mainly in its hilly parts. These are electrified and have long been a tradition in Bratislava, operating for more than 100 years.
It is less expensive to order a taxi over the phone than to hail one on the street. Taxis can be pricey and may overcharge tourists. Another option is to use a reputable app, such as Bolt (popular and affordable) and HOPIN, Uber is not available in Slovakia as of now.
By Biking
Bratislava is growing more bike-friendly with dedicated bike paths, especially along the Danube River. Slovnaft BAjk is a city bike share system that brings up to 550 bikes to the streets. There are brochures available with bike routes in and around Bratislava as well.
E-Scooters are also available for rent in Bratislava, and you can go with it anywhere. You do not need a driver's license to ride and use an electric scooter. Riding is really simple, and even a complete beginner can handle it. You can rent e-scooters in the city under the SNP bridge on the side of the city center.
