Duqm is a port town on the coastal strip of the Arabian Sea open to the Indian Ocean. It is about 342 miles from Muscat.
What is Duqm known for?Historically a small fishing village, Duqm has traditionally been a major industrial, oil and port town. The Omani government has been looking to increase tourism in the area. An airport opened in 2014. The city is becoming the country's epicenter for economic diversification, there wasn't really anything there but a few Bedouin fishing villages. Duqm is now two and a half times the size of Singapore.
How do I get into Duqm?
Duqm is 6 hours away from Muscat by car. or 1 hour 15 minutes by flight. Salalah is on the western side of Duqm.
Duqm Jaaluni Airport is a small airport located in Duqm, Oman. It is a domestic airport with limited flights at this time.
Duqm is connected to the rest of Oman through an extensive road network and the Duqm Airport, which offers domestic and limited international flights.
Getting around by car is the most convenient way to get around Duqm, especially given the town's ongoing expansion and distances between key locations.
Taxis are available in Duqm, though they are less common than in larger cities. It's advisable to arrange taxis through your hotel or a trusted local service provider.
Public bus services are available, however, they are very limited.
The national currency is the Oman Rial (OMR). Circulation of the OMR is in banknotes and coins. Banknote denominations are 100 and 200 baisas, and 1/2, 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 rials. Coins have denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 baisas, and 1/4 and 1/2 rials.

Like the rest of Oman, Duqm has a hot desert climate, characterized by extremely hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 104°F and mild winters with temperatures averaging around 68°F. Rainfall is sparse and occurs mainly in the winter months. The best time to visit is between October and April, when temperatures are warm (63°F to 95°F) yet not too hot.
