Central Port Elizabeth

South End

The The South End neighborhood as its name suggests lies just south of the city center of Port Elizabeth with views overlooking the harbor. It is nestled between the Humewood and the heart of the city, making it a prime spot to base yourself when visiting the “Windy City”. South End is filled with history, a vibrant neighborhood with a prime location that was the site of enforced relocation of its residents during Apartheid. The neighborhood was home to some beautiful 19th and 20th-century buildings boasting spectacular gables, and during the 50s and 60s was a very cosmopolitan suburb until it was completely destroyed. The South End Museum features a wild fig tree at its entrance as well as a Hindu temple and a few Muslim mosques in the vicinity. Summerstrand
