How do I get to the Okavango Delta?

The Okavango Delta is serviced by Maun Airport, situated on the edge of the famous Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The airport is also a launching pad for flights over the famous Okavango Delta. Kasane International Airport is also a possibility to reach Okavango. This journey takes longer and is more expensive.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The airport offers shuttle buses, taxis, and rental cars. However, upon arrival, travelers will normally be met by a representative from their camp and assisted onto a shared charter flight to a number of camps in the Okavango and surrounding areas. These flights usually take 15-30 minutes depending on the camp you are going to. Camps and lodges in the Okavango Delta are only accessible by light aircraft.

How do I get around by public transportation in Gisenyi?

What are some popular areas for shopping?

Botswana can be an exciting place to shop for items like exotic goods that mirror the uniqueness of life in the country. Every major town in the country features at least one shopping center or mall and includes major supermarkets, clothing, furniture, homeware, and electronics stores. There are authentic gift stores and curio shops and some safari lodges and camps have their own locally made woven baskets, jewelry, wooden carvings, and bowls. They are usually sourced from communities in the area. The Gaborone mall is one of the main shopping areas in the country, it is filled with a selection of locally made goods like carved bone, wood, jewelry, baskets, and woven clothes. The African Mall is nearby, the newer Game City Mall is near Kgale Hills with the most traffic, it features a grocery store, movie houses, and department stores. The Riverwalk Mall is those for who wish to shop and dine out with a wide selection of food stores and restaurants to choose from. There are a multitude of gift shops for tourists in other towns such as Maun and Kasane. There are local markets at a number of safari lodges and camps that allow the opportunity to meet local people, learn about their culture, and understand their way of life. What is the language spoken in the Okavango Delta?

What is the best time to visit the Okavango Delta? The Okavango Delta experiences seasonal flooding, the floods peak between June and August, during Botswana’s dry winter months, this is when the delta swells to three times its permanent size attracting animals from miles around and creating one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife. The high temperatures of the delta cause rapid transpiration and evaporation, which result in three cycles of rising and falling water levels. December to February are the hot wet months in the region with temperatures soaring as high as 104F degrees, with warm nights and high humidity. From June to August, the rains dry up and bring in the cool winter months with mild daytime temperatures that are mild to warm, but the temperatures drop considerably after the sun sets. The best time to visit is from June to October during the dry season when the waters are highest as the flood waters arrive from Angola, and the animals flock to the waters from the dry hinterland.
