How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

Since there are no direct flights to Fujairah. Any airborne visitors will arrive at one of the western emirates.

Most visitors will travel in from Dubai, which is roughly a two-hour drive, and some buses run regularly between Dubai and Fujairah (around one every hour during the day and evening; the cost is around 25 dirhams one way). The bus service is comfortable. Women, couples and families sit in the front two to three rows, and men in the remaining seats.

Buses leave from Union Square in Dubai, and from the old Plaza Cineman/HSBC in Fjuairah (stopping at the bus station on the way out of town, where passengers need to disembark to buy their tickets before re-boarding).

The rates are affordable and if you have a valid license, you can rent a car. The city can also be accessed by road from Oman since the Emirate shares its international border with the Sultanate of Oman. Visitors must have separate visas from Oman and UAE in order to move from one to the other by car or any other mode of travel.

Are there trains that go to Fujairah?

No, trains only operate in Dubai.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

Fujairah city is not designed for pedestrians, being dominated by main roads. It sounds very strange, but Fujairah's transportation is represented only by cab services. There are virtually no buses - if you see a bus on the street, it belongs either to a private company that delivers employees or to an educational institution.

The fleet of Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry taxis are metered, and are plentiful. Fares start at around 2 dirhams during the day (around 2.50 dirhams at night). Visitors attempting to walk around the city will attract horn-tooting from taxi drivers, who seriously cannot believe that anyone would choose to walk.

Be aware that many cab drivers do not speak English, so stock up on a map of the city so you can simply point to your destination in a difficult situation.

Should I rent a car in Fujairah?

You can rent a car or motorbike at an international car rental office. If you do plan to drive, be aware and safe, as locals are known to be aggressive, fast drivers.

The road conditions in the area are well-maintained. You can expect to see two lanes of traffic traveling in both directions.

Is Fujairah a walking city?

Fujairah is not a "walking city" - It is more common for visitors to rely on cars or other modes of transportation for getting around due to the city's layout, which is more spread out and designed with vehicular traffic in mind.

Is Fujairah a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

The city is generally safe, although it is worth considering possible problems due to the diverse religious and national composition of the inhabitants. The main complaints of tourists are related to cab billing or hotel staff dishonesty.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

The City Center Fujairah is a popular shopping mall located in the heart of the city. It features a variety of stores, including international brands, fashion outlets, electronics shops, and restaurants.

Lulu Mall is another prominent shopping destination in Fujairah, offering a wide selection of retail outlets, entertainment options, and dining establishments.

Fujairah Gold Souk is great for those interested in traditional shopping experiences. Here, you can find a variety of gold jewelry, as well as other precious metals and gemstones.

The Central Market, also known as the Old Souk, is a bustling marketplace where you can shop for a variety of goods, including textiles, spices, souvenirs, and local handicrafts.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The local currency is Dirham and any other currency can be changed to Dirham in most of the major cities in the UAE. Most of the hotels accept major credit cards but it is always advisable to carry some ash with you.

What is a popular time to visit?

The best time to visit is subjective as it depends on how warm you like your weather to be. The summer in the UAE is extremely hot and humid, but this is when the prices are their lowest and there are deals to be had.

Fujairah is mountainous so it tends to be a few degrees cooler than Dubai and rainfall may be a bit more likely.

The peak season and best time to visit is typically during the winter months, from November to March. During this time, the weather is milder and more pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from around 68°F to 86°F. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions.

What are the customs and laws of Fujairah?

Fujairah is an orthodox city, so the best thing would be to ensure that whatever you do is not offensive. It is illegal to drink alcohol and be drunk in public, and you can be arrested and prosecuted if you are found making a scene. (Non-Muslim tourists have no restrictions when it comes to drinking, and most of the hotels have a license to serve alcohol).

When it comes to attire, Fujairah is conservative and they have dress codes that have to be strictly adhered to, especially when visiting their religious places and mosques. It is advisable for women not to expose much of their skin.

I don’t speak Arabic will there be many people who speak English?

The official language of the United Arab Emirates, including Fujairah, is Arabic. Arabic is used in government, education, and official communication. However, due to the multicultural nature of the UAE, English is widely spoken and understood, especially in urban areas like Fujairah.
