CBD

The central business district (CBD) in Kigali covers Nyarungenge Hill. Kigali’s CBD features beautiful wide tree-lined boulevards and an immaculate square dotted with quaint cafes, stylish restaurants, unique shops, and the main concentration of nightlife in the city. Nyarugenge is a district in the heart of Kigali located towards the west of the urban area and the province, this is where most of the city’s businesses are located. There are 10 sectors in the Myarungenge district; Gitega, Kanyinya, Kigali, Kimisagara, Mageragere, Muhima, Nyakabanda, Nyamirambo, Nyarugenge and Rwezamenyo. There are plenty of accommodation options in the cbd, giving guests easy access to all of what the city has to offer.

Kiyovu

Kiyovu is set in the heart of Mu Mugi where the UTC (Union Trade Center) is located, a highly commercial area with hundreds of great shops, high-class restaurants, and upscale bars and clubs. Kiyovu stretches from UTC at the top of the hill down to Cercle Sportif and is very well stocked with plenty of hotels to choose from allowing visitors easy access to all the amenities. This sleepy residential neighborhood is great for strolling along the leafy, winding streets lined with quaint shops, cute cafes, and bakeries. Leafy streets lead you to many dining options.

Nyamirambo/Remera

Outside of the city center, there are plenty of budget-friendly accommodation options for visitors, but the downtown area of Kigali tends to be more expensive than other neighborhoods. Located in the southwest corner of the city the multi-cultural neighborhood of Nyamirambo is filled with history, and a mixed population as well as bars, restaurants, boutiques, and more.

Different aspects of the area illustrate the diversity that makes Nyamirambo special, and the NWC tour weaves a trail from the spiritual soul of the historic Green Mosque to Nyamirambo’s creative hubs. These are a few of the highlights. Nyarutarma is home to Kigali’s only golf course, where middle-class people spend their sunny weekends enjoying a game. The MTN Center is one of the most prominent and exclusive malls in the city and a major attraction in this neighborhood.

Remera is home to Kigali’s infamous red light district, and the Amahoro National Stadium, a new indoor stadium being built where the Commonwealth Games will be held. There are plenty of hotels to choose from in this neighborhood along with restaurants, bars, clubs, and lounges. This neighborhood is conveniently located near the airport and offers numerous guest houses and hotels with plenty of eating and drinking establishments to choose from.

Suburbs

There are several other neighborhoods in the surrounding suburbs including Gacuriro where most of the expensive homes are located, with a high number of mansions and villas. A very exclusive neighborhood dotted with expensive restaurants, and shops along with a high vibe nightlife from bars, to clubs.

The Kisimenti neighborhood is closely connected to Remera, Kimironko, Nyarutarama, Kabeza, and Kicukiro, it serves as a gateway to Eastern Europe. A great area for public transportation with bus routes aplenty with lots of motos and taxis zipping around.

Kicukiro is home to a large amount of middle-income families, middle-class establishments, and residential estates. Mount Kenya University is located here, Rwanda’s foremost private university. A rapidly growing neighborhood where Rwanda’s second airport is being built here. The Kimironko Market is a popular place here and there are some great restaurants, bars, and clubs. The Kimironko Gare is the main bus terminal here that connects to all major areas in Kigali.
