AMALFI - BEACHES

Although the Amalfi Coast is a popular seaside vacation destination, this part of the Italian coastline actually has very few beaches. Visitors should not expect a leisurely stroll on long stretches of soft sand for on the Amalfi Coast, what is considered a beach is usually nothing more than a patch of pebbles or a rocky platform beneath the cliffs. The majority of the towns in this area are situated high above sea level and in order to reach the water`s edge, visitors will have to make their way down long flights of steps or steep coastal paths. The reward for this effort is some of the world's most beautiful bays, bathed by warm, crystal clear waters.

An insider tip: try to go early. For maximum hours of sunshine try a picnic breakfast on the beach as the sun will be gone from almost all of the Amalfi Coast's beaches by the early afternoon.
