ELBA ISLAND - GETTING AROUND

By Bus

There is an excellent bus service available on the island, connecting all the main towns and villages. The public transport service, managed by the company CTT Nord, is active throughout the year and ensures the conneciton not only to the main towns but also the the beautiful beaches of the island. Buses leave Portoferraio from the main terminal at Viale Elba 22 (opposite the Toremar dock), with three lines servicing the west, east, and south of the island. (If you know the name of a beach between villages where you want to be let off, tell the driver.)

Portoferraio - San Martino;
Portoferraio - San Giovanni;
Portoferraio - Albereto;
Portoferraio - Albereto – Ancient Saline;
Calata Matteotti - Calata Mazzini - Calata Italia - Zambelli - Carducci - Palazzina dei Mulini - Cemeteries - San Rocco – Hospital;
Calata Matteotti - Calata Italia - Albereto - Viticcio.

By Taxi

Taxi services is available to move around the Elban territory. For info and reservations call the multilingual taxi operations center open 24 hours a day at the following number Tel +39 0565 1822. Taxis are easy to find in the larger towns, such as Portoferraio, Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro.

By Car

There is a good road network with various scenic routes on the island. All the major towns are clearly signposted and can be easily reached along asphalt roads. In the last few years, numerous charging stations for Enel X electric cars have been available, including some right on the port of Portoferraio.

The ferry does accommodate passengers to bring their own vehicle, however if you decide not to, you can rent a car at the Elba Servizi agency at the airport in La Pila. Ther are also other agencies in the are that rent cars, scooters, bicycles, etc.

By Bicycle

Elba can be described as a bikers' paradise. Short distances, varying altitude ranges, scenic paths, and pleasant routes are all suitable for cyclists of any level regardless of your experiences. Choose from dense woods or follow the breathtaking roads along the coast. From one end to the other, the island of Elba is about 28 miles long.
