ZAKYNTHOS - GETTING AROUND

Getting To Zakynthos

You can reach Zakynthos island either by ferry to Zakynthos, or by airplane.

Regarding ferries to Zakynthos, they depart daily from Killini, a seaside town on the western side of Peloponnese, Greece. The journey from Killini to Zakynthos lasts about an hour.

An alternative is to catch a flight to Zakynthos International Airport “Dionysios Solomos” both from Athens and Kefalonia all year round. During the summer, several countries of Europe offer flights to Zakynthos. The flight time from Athens to Zaknthos is about 45 minutes.

By Car

Given that Zakynthos is quite a big island, the best way to get around is by car. Zakynthos International airport “Dionysios Solomos” is 2.5 miles away from Zakynthos town, so your best bet is to grab a taxi or rent a car for your transportation.

By Bus

If you plan to travel to Zakynthos by boat, then local buses might serve you better, as there is a bus station close to the port, serving many itineraries around the island’s mainland.

By Taxi

Unfortunately, Uber and Lyft don’t operate in Zante but thankfully, taxis are plentiful and are one of the most used forms of transportation on the island.

If you do take a taxi, make sure to negotiate the fare before getting in the car in order to avoid getting ripped off.

By Scooter

The next best way to explore the island is by moto or ATV - especially if you’re traveling as a couple. Motos and ATV’s are much easier to maneuver on the narrow roads and you’ll also be able to explore more parts of the island which you wouldn’t be able to access by car.

Finding parking is also significantly easier when riding a moto on the island.
