CAERNARFON - NEIGHBORHOODS

City Center (Caernarfon Town Centre)

Caernarfon`s town center is very small, appoximately 85 acres, or 1/8th of a square mile in size. It is possible to walk from Caernarfon Castle and Castle Square to Victoria Dock in 15 minutes or less, and in between you will find the vast majority of sights you will be visiting in Caernarfon. Castle Square is located on the southwestern edge of town, on the mouth of the River Seiont as it reaches the Menai Strait. The streets between Castle Ditch (the street on the northern end of the castle) toward High Street are home to a lot of food options and the limited nightlife Caernarfon offers. Be sure to look at Palace Street, Castle Street, and Hole in the Wall Street before deciding; there are so many great options!

Outskirts

The outskirts of town are only visited by tourists for two reasons: one, as they are leaving town to explore Snowdonia National Park; or two, to visit the Medieval Church of St. Peblig, built on the site of a Roman Mithraeum, and the ruins of the adjacent Segontium Roman fortress. These are located right next to one another on Constantine Road as you leave the city center to explore Snowdonia National Park. For those wishing to explore Snowdonia, you will leave via the A4086 motorway (Llanberis Road), which you can access from the roundabout on the edge of town near Pool Hill and Pool Side.
