How do I get to Neum?

The Mostar International Airport is the closest airport to Neum, located 27 miles away. There are bus services, and rental cars available at the airport. There are also taxis available, but this option might be expensive.

The Dubrovnik International Airport is located 52.81 miles away from Neum. There is a regular bus service that runs from Dubrovnik to Neum, and there are rental cars available at the airport. The bus journey from Dubrovnik to Neum takes around 2.5 hours.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

If you have not booked a private transfer through us then your options are a rental car, bus, or taxi to connect from the Mostar or Dubrovnik airports to Neum. You can take a short taxi ride from the bus drop off to your accommodation that shouldn’t cost more than 3-5KM.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

The tiny coastal resort town of Neum is a compact area for the most part, with some steep hills. The main way to get around town is walking, a bus, or taking a taxi. The bus stop is located 700 feet from the center of town, only about a 3-minute walk.

Should I rent a car in Neum?

Renting a car at the Mostar or Dubrovnik Airports will be one of your best bets to reach the coastal town. Renting a car will allow you to make the 1-hour journey from Dubrovnik or the shorter 30-minute drive from Mostar. If you are crossing the border from Croatia be advised that there is a checkpoint and you will need to show your passport. Highway 17.3 travels up the side of the mountains from Neum to Hutovo, and eventually reaches Mostar, without crossing the border.

How do I call/hail a taxi?

There are taxis available in town, they can be found at the bus drop off area in the center of town and sometimes outside of hotels and major attractions. Your hotel can contact a local taxi company by phone and request a ride for you.

Is Neum a walking city?

Walking around Neum is one of the best ways to get around, there are surrounding hills and mountains available for hiking opportunities. The main town can be accessed on foot as it is quite compact with many accommodations, restaurants, shops, and points of interest within walking distance. Walking along the coastline and stopping at Neum’s beaches is a pleasant experience with spectacular views.

Is Neum a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

Neum is a very safe place to visit, with a low crime in the city and rarely directed towards foreigners. Petty theft, crimes, and certain scams do exist, but no different to any other major city. Practice safe street smarts when out exploring and keep your valuables close when in crowded areas. Don’t wander into unlit areas at night, stick to the crowded streets and take a taxi from your destination back to your hotel to stay safe.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

There are a few shopping opportunities to be found in the tiny coastal town of Neum, many can be found in the Old Town area with authentic local shops and some small markets available where unique souvenirs can be purchased. The prices in Neum are much lower than in Croatia.

What is the best time to visit Neum?

Neum is nestled on the Adriatic coast and enjoys a balmy Mediterranean climate with long, warm summers, and short, mild winters. Neum is one of the coastal towns that have the greatest number of sunny days throughout the year. The sunnies month of the year is July and the warmest month is August with average daily highs soaring into the 90s. The weather is reasonable throughout the year, but the temperatures can vary quite a bit, from May to October, you are likely to experience good weather with average temperatures averaging between 68 -77 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The currency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Bosnian Convertible Mark (BAM or KM). You will need to exchange your currency for the Convertible Mark, which can be done upon arrival at the airport currency exchange desks or banks and specialized stores called Foreign Exchange Bureaus.

What is the food like?

The town of Neum enjoys a position on the Adriatic sea with many of the charming seaside towns’ menus consisting of freshly caught fish and seafood options. The restaurants in Neum can be found nestled along with the coastline, many offering wonderful views of the beaches, and waters with outdoor terrace seating. Visitors can expect to dine on delicious Bosnian dishes along with Mediterranean influenced menu items. There are all kinds of fish to enjoy cooked in white wine garlic sauces, giant prawns, mussels, and accompanied with great wine and local beers. Traditional Bosnian cevapcici, Burek, and Baklava can be enjoyed around town. There are local authentic restaurants, seafood restaurants, and many Italian options found in town.

What is the nightlife like?

The small coastal town of Neum is not a happening nightlife destination. There are many outdoor terraces at restaurants or bars that offer a romantic atmosphere in the evening, but there are no clubs or parties in town. Cafes and ice cream shops are abundant in town and it is mostly a family-oriented town. There is one venue located north of Hotel Sunce that plays house music.
