Many people use Varna as a jumping-off point to explore the rest of the Black Sea Coast, but it is a popular tourist destination in its own right. Constanta is a popular vacation spot due to its warm weather; a popular beach resort, Mamaia, is located just 20 minutes away by car.

The main street, the Bulevardul Mamaia, runs through the western portion of the island and the beachfront is situated to the east.
