IBIZA ISLAND - SPORTS & ACTIVITIES

If you want to make the most of Ibiza`s beautiful coastline then you should check out the possibilities for water sports in Ibiza. The great thing about Ibiza is that there is something for everyone. The quieter, more secluded Ibiza beaches make up for in tranquility what they lack in amenities, the larger beaches are buzzing day and night with activities to suit all ages. Rent a pedalo for some beach relaxation or jet around the port on a banana boat or donut. You can easily have a go at waterskiing or parasailing in the bigger resorts or of course, there is always a traditional bit of swimming.

Scuba Diving
Conditions are ideal for diving around the coast of Ibiza, with clear water and water temperatures of up to 80F degrees in summer. The sea bed in the Las Salinas national park is a World Heritage site, owing to the ecological importance of the seagrass that grows there. It is so popular in fact, that the island has a huge number of Scuba Diving schools where you can hire equipment and take classes.

Surfing & Windsurfing
Those with experience of catching some waves should head to Ibiza at the start or end of the summer (April/May, September/October) if they want to be tested. The best spots are Platja d`en Bossa (Ibiza Town), Cala Martina (Santa Eularia) and Las Playas de Comte (San Antonio de Portmany). Complete beginners can get started during the summer months when there is a lot less wind.

Sailing
Sailing is feasible year-round option and the best spots where you can also hire equipment / take classes are Platja d`en Bossa (Ibiza Town), Ses Salines and San Antonio de Portmany.

Horseback Riding
There are a number of stables where you can enjoy a riding experience, exploring the island on horseback.

Golf
There is the 27-hole Club de Golf Ibiza is situated in Santa Eulària des Riu.

Tennis & Paddle
There are some very upscale sports clubs in Ibiza which have top-rate tennis and paddle courts, including the Ahmara Sport & Social Centre, Club de Campo & Club Can Jordi. These clubs also offer other facilities, such as badminton & squash, gyms and pools.

Cueva de Can Marca
A truly fascinating outing for all ages just a little way west from Ibiza`s northern resort of Portinatx. The Cuevas de Can Marça are made up of lots of adjoining underground caves which were once used by smugglers to hide their goods. The eerie ambience is made even more spectacular with a hi-tech light and music show, perfectly timed with the guided tour.
Before entering the caves you can take in the most breathtaking views over the coast at Puerto de San Miguel. Once down in the caves there are some unforgettable geological rock formations dating back 100,000 years. You can see where water once used to run and admire the enormous 30 foot waterfall which plunges down to the depths of the caverns, conjuring up what life used to be like down in the Cuevas de Can Marça.
