Torre Tavira and Camara Obscura

The city`s highest watchtower dates back to the 18th century and boasts amazing views across the city. The Tavira tower used to be part of the palace of the Marquis of Recano but it was named after its first watchman, Don Antonio Tavira. It rises 147 feet above sea level and was considered the highest lookout point in Cádiz. Thus, it was designated as the official watchtower of the town. Today, the tower is a Camera Obscura which is an interesting device that consists of a white concave screen buried inside the tower. This set up allows you to see what is happening right outside the tower through optical effects.
