The Gulf of Kaštela is an area of the Dalmatian coast that is bookended to the west by Trogir, to the east by Split, and to the southwest by Ciovo Island. The northern coastline in between Trogir and Split is dominated by seven settlements referred to collectively as Kaštela. As you drive on the ring road connecting Trogir and Split, Ulica Ivana Pavla II, you will encounter, from west to east, Kaštel Štafilic, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Lukšic, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Gomilica, and Kaštel Sucurac. These towns were inhabited from the time of the Greeks, who had built a major port here. By the time of the Romans, they installed the first floating docks that they would eventually use at ports throughout the Empire. Formerly the playground of Croatian and Venetian royals, this luxurious, picturesque area is now one of Croatia`s prime vacation spots. Enjoy the beaches and the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Kaštela, with the mountains as a gorgeous backdrop just a short car ride away.
