Lyon, the third-largest city in France, is a very modern city that has not lost its special character. Its center reflects 2,000 years of history from the Roman Amphithéâtre des Trois Gaules, medieval and Renaissance architecture in Vieux (Old) Lyon, to the modern Confluence district on Presqu'île peninsula. Traboules, covered passageways between buildings, connect Vieux Lyon and La Croix-Rousse hill. Lyon is also music and theater promoting and hosting productions of all kinds, particularly in the national Opera house, renovated by Jean Nouvel. Parks, skyscrapers and sidewalk cafes, a great transport system, and a nightlife fueled by student energy invigorate Lyon.

The ancient capital of the Dauphine, Grenoble is the commercial, intellectual, and tourist center of the Alps. Spherical cable cars called "Les Bulles” (Bubbles) connect the town to the summit of La Bastille hill, named for the 18th-century fortress on its slopes. Its university, founded in 1339, has a student body of some 40,000 and also the largest summer-session program in Europe attracting a large number of foreign students. The city is also home to four other universities with a large contingent of English and American students, giving the city a cosmopolitan air.

Spanish cuisine is very flavorful, and is a quintessential Mediterranean diet, befitting the world`s largest olive oil producer and second-largest wine producer. Spain`s former colonies all over the world influenced the cuisine at home, in everything from tomato sauce to saffron. Today, the various regional staple delicacies represent history and tradition. With that said, Spain is also well-known as a cutting-edge food destination, and one city in particular, San Sebastian, boasts the second-highest per capita concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.

Food is a huge part of Greek culture. The cuisine offers an incredibly rich and diverse array of foods and beverages that are the culmination of thousands of years of living, cooking, and eating. Flavors of Greek food change with season and geography, however, fresh vegetables, fishes and seafood always play a significant role in the dishes, mostly because of its long coastline. Overall, the food always incorporates much more than just flavors and dishes. It’s all about the fresh ingredients, the lengthy procedure involved in preparing the food, and the culture of sharing dishes with others.
