WHY EXETER?

Exeter, Devon`s county town, is situated on the beautiful River Exe. Exeter became an important city in the Roman province of Britannia when it was selected as the southern terminus of the Roman Fosse Way. A fortress was built here, and what the Romans called `the settlement of Isca` flourished. By Medieval times, Exeter became known as a local religious center, and the grand Exeter Cathedral was completed in the early 12th century. Other points of interest include the Customs House, the oldest brick building still standing in town; the Guildhall, the oldest city government building still in active use in England; and Exeter Synagogue, dating from 1763, which is one of the oldest Jewish houses of worship in the country.
