Visit Madrid, Seville, Arcos de la Frontera, Ronda, Costa del Sol, Antequera and Granada
Following is our suggested itinerary, please note that you may extend the number of nights in each city, as well as select the hotel of your choice and choose from different sightseeing tours.
Day 1: USA - Madrid
After your overnight transatlantic flight from the United States and passing through customs, you will head to your selected hotel . After that you will have the rest of the morning free. Afternoon at leisure for optional sightseeing tours or to visit this lovely city on your own. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Madrid - Seville
Breakfast. Early morning departure from Madrid Atocha train station with destination Seville via the high velocity train, AVE. In less than two and a half hours you will have covered the 300 miles that separate the national capital with the capital of Andalusia. Upon arrival, you will check into the hotel selected. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit around the city of the orange trees. Be sure to spend sometime visiting some of the most evocative sites of Seville. In the squares of the antique Jewish section of Santa Cruz, you will be wrapped up in the magic of one the most beautiful and lively cities on the European continent. You may want to enter in the sumptuous royal palace, the Royal Alcazares, the oldest in Europe, and then visit the Seville Cathedral, the third largest Christian cathedral and site of Christopher Columbus´ tomb. The rest of the day will be at your disposition to enjoy the cosmopolitan ambience of this beautiful city and wander the same streets as Don Juan, Carmen, and the great painter, Valázquez. Overnight in Seville.
Day 3: Seville - Arcos De La Frontera - Ronda
Breakfast. Today you will pick up your rent a car and start your drive south along the highway Seville-Cadiz before taking the national road that will take you to Ronda. On route, we strongly recommend a stop in Arcos de la Frontera, a lovely village that seems to hang from a rock and which was named, years ago, a Spanish National Monument for its beauty. After wandering its narrow, inclined streets, you will continue on route to Ronda, passing along the evocative roads of the Sierra de Ronda with olive trees and vineyards as company. The numerous villages that seem to hang from the surrounding mountains will prepare you for Ronda, perched atop a vertiginous gorge. This is lovely town, which has equally seduced poets, bandits and bullfighters. The village has one of the most beautiful bullrings on the Iberian Peninsula, and within which was begun, in the 18th century, bullfighting on foot, as we know it today. Overnight stay at the hotel selected in Ronda. Overnight in Ronda.
Day 4: Ronda - Marbella (Costa del Sol)
Breakfast. You will have part of the morning to enjoy the attractions of this unequalled town that owes its characteristics as much to the Arabs as to the Christians. Afterwards, you will follow a serpentine road that drops from the heights of the Sierra de Ronda to the tranquil, vibrant blue of the Mediterranean. Once on the Costa del Sol, you will drive to the hotel selected. Overnight stay.
Day 5: Marbella (Costa del Sol)
Breakfast. You will have the whole day at your leisure to explore this playground of the rich and famous. The possibilities are unlimited, from excursions to nearby villages to experience the daily life of inhabitants, sample the local gastronomy in quaint restaurants and taverns, or play a round of golf on one the many courses in the area, some of professional category. Of course, you can take the most common option of visitors to the area and spend a day at one of the zone?s white beaches and bathe in the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean. Overnight stay.
Day 6: Costa del Sol - Antequera - Granada
Breakfast. Today you will drive again into the interior of Andalusia, leaving behind the romantic Mediterranean coast. We recommend a stop at the ancient city of Antequera, which played an important role during the Roman occupation of Iberia as well as during the Arabic and Christian epochs. Aside from its innumerable monuments, the nearby world famous Neolithic dolmens, some of the largest and best reserved in existence, are well worth visiting. After this pause, you will continue towards Granada. Arrival and check in at the hotel selected. Overnight stay.
Day 7: Granada
Breakfast. We recommend an early start for a visit to the Alhambra, one of the most impressive and best conserved monuments of the Arabic World, though today of course, found on Christian soil. This romantic palace, in reality a compendium of various constructions of distinct periods and styles, has captivated the imagination of all those who have visited it during its 600 years of existence. Washington Irving, Ambassador of the United States in Spain, wrote in one of its rooms, the lovely book, Tales of the Alhambra. Continue next door for a visit to the Generalife Gardens, which were the summer residence of the Granadian Sultans. After the visit, the rest of the day will be at your disposition to explore the rest of the city. You could enter the Capilla Real (Royal Chapel), where the Catholic Kings (Catherine and Ferdinand) who supported the expeditions of Columbus are buried, enter the Albayzin District and other fascinating zones of this mythic city. At night, its active nightlife will entice you into one of the many taverns and restaurant for a full meal, or, why not, some tapas. Overnight stay in Granada.
Day 8: Granada - Madrid
Breakfast. You will have the morning free to make any last minute buys or visit another monument of this impressive city, undoubtedly the most Arabic of Western European cities. During the afternoon you will take the Talgo train for your return to Madrid. You will lodge in the hotel of your choice and enjoy a last evening and night to say goodbye to Spain, at least for the moment. What a choice to be had, for shows and activities of all types adorn the famed Madrid nightlife. Indeed, the problem will be the wealth of choice. Overnight stay in Madrid.
