Start your adventure through Greece with a visit to Athens, the Cradle of Civilization, then continue your vacation island hopping by Ferry/Hydrofoil visiting lovely Mykonos, romantic Santorini and Heraklion in ancient Crete Island featuring the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Classical Athens was a centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Plato`s Academy and Aristotle`s Lyceum. The most important civilization of the ancient world flourished in Athens and relives through some of the world`s most formidable edifices. Athens is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Acropolis of Athens and the medieval Daphni Monastery. Fira, the picturesque capital of the island, is perched high up on the edge of the Caldera, looking like a marvelous painting. Some of the villages are cosmopolitan some more peaceful; they are surrounded by vast vineyards; whitewashed cliff-top towns with castles affording amazing views out over the Aegean. Soaking up the villages` distinctive traditional atmosphere is a very rewarding experience. A real wonder of Santorini is the town of Akrotiri, covered by lava, but incredibly preserved under it.

Heraklion is close to the ruins of the palace of Knossos, which in Minoan times was the biggest centre of population on Crete. Home to Crete's largest city, Heraklion, as well as immense ruins scattered throughout the region, this prefecture draws attention from history lovers and young travelers looking for the island's nightlife.
