Overall, everything went very well. We used a 48 hour Metro pass in Paris and similar for the canal boats in Venice. In Paris, we were there early enough that we talked them into breakfast that morning in lieu of 2 days later when we would leave before the breakfast hour. That was the Mecure hotel, an excellent choice. In Venice, our hotel was great, the Saint Elena. Great breakfast and very quiet. Since we had to leave early again, they made us up box lunches which we ate on the train to Florence. In Rome, with the early departure, we left our hotel 5am to get the first train to the airport. No ticket agents were available and the ticket kiosks would not take our credit cards, MC or VISA. Fortunately, someone showed us that it would take Euros and I had 30 euros, enough to cover the 28 Euro trip for 2. Great time overall and lessons learned about adroit pickpockets and ticket kiosks. Keep us on your email list for `deals`.
