Focus your visit to Spain around the hightlights of Andalucia. Visit Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Arcos de la Frontera, Granada and the Costa del Sol.
Following is our suggested itinerary, please note that you may extend the number of nights in each city, as well as select the hotel of your choice and choose from different sightseeing tours.
Day 1: USA - Madrid
After your transatlantic flight from the United States, a driver will meet you at Madrid Barajas airport with a private car for transfer to the hotel selected. After checking in, you will have the rest of the morning free. Afternoon at leisure for optional sightseeing tours. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Madrid - Cordoba
Breakfast. First thing in the morning, you will leave the Madrid Atocha train station for Cordoba on the high velocity train, AVE. In less than two hours, you will be in what was, a thousand years ago, the largest city in the Western World. Be sure to visit the Mosque and the old Jewish Section, both named Humanity Patrimony Sites by the UNESCO. The impressive forest of columns of the thousand-year-old Mosque and the intricate narrow streets of the Jewish District will transport you back to periods of amazing splendour. After the visit you will have the rest of the day free to continue discovering this fascinating city, homeland of Seneca, Averroes or Maimonides, key figures in the history of Humanity. Overnight stay in the hotel of your choice.
Day 3: Cordoba - Carmona - Seville
Breakfast. Today you will pick up your rental car and continue your exploration of Andalusia. On route to Seville, we recommend a stop at the village of Carmona, which is steeped in history to an extent little found elsewhere: Barroque palaces, Roman necropolis, and Cartagine fortresses. An unusual mix, but it all seems to work to make Carmona one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia. A short drive will bring you to Seville, the capital of Andalusia. Once there you will check in to the hotel you have selected. Overnight stay.
Day 4: Seville
Breakfast. At leisure in Seville, be sure to spend some time, visiting the most evocative sites of Seville. In the squares of the antique Jewish section of Santa Cruz, you will be wrapped up in the magic of one the most beautiful and lively cities on the European continent. Enter the sumptuous royal palace, the Royal Alcazares, the oldest in Europe, and then visit the Seville Cathedral, the third largest Christian cathedral and site of Christopher Columbus` tomb. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the cosmopolitan ambience of this beautiful city and wander the same streets as Don Juan, Carmen, and the great painter, Velázquez. Overnight in Seville.
Day 5: Seville - Jerez de la Frontere - Arcos de la Frontera
Breakfast. Today you will drive south along the highway Seville Cadiz. Now you are in the most southern province, and a visit to the celebrated city of Jerez is almost mandatory. There, local artisans have produced, since times long past, one of the most famous wines of the world, Sherry. You can visit any of the world-famous "bodegas" that specialize in this rich sipping wine and discover some of the secrets of its elaboration. You can of course sample, but remember, not too much, you are driving. After visiting this refined city, full of wines and monuments, you will head towards a village that seems to be hanging from the side of a rock and which was declared, years ago, a National Monument, for its beauty, Arcos de la Frontera. After checking in the hotel you have selected, there will still be time to wander about its steeply inclined, narrow streets.Overnight stay in Arcos de la Frontera
Day 6: Arcos de la Frontera - Ronda - Granada
Breakfast. Today enjoy a wonderful day of driving along the charming roads of the Sierra de Ronda, among olive trees and vineyards. After you will pass by numerous whitewashed villages that seem to be hung on the mountainsides around Ronda. We highly recommend a stop in this lovely village that has equally seduced poets, bandits and bullfighters. The village has one of the most beautiful bullrings on the Iberian Peninsula, and within which was begun, in the 18th century, bullfighting on foot, as we know it today. After another section of Andalusian roadways, you will arrive at Granada. Check in at the hotel of your choice and overnight stay.
Day 7: Granada
Breakfast. At leisure in Granada, be sure to visit the Alhambra, one of the most impressive and best-conserved monuments of the Arabic World, though today of course, found on Christian soil. This romantic palace, in reality a compendium of various constructions of distinct periods and styles, has captivated the imagination of all those who have visited it during its 600 years of existence. Washington Irving, Ambassador of the United States in Spain, wrote in one of its rooms, the lovely book, Tales of the Alhambra. Then continue for a visit to the Generalife Gardens, which were the summer residence of the Granadian Sultans. After the visit, explore the rest of the city. You could enter the Capilla Real (Royal Chapel), where the Catholic Kings (Isabella and Ferdinand) who supported the expeditions of Columbus are buried, enter the Albayzin District and other fascinating zones of this mythic city. At night, its active nightlife will entice you into one of the many taverns and restaurant for a full meal, or, why not, some tapas. Overnight stay in Granada.
Day 8: Granada - Antequera - Costa del Sol
Breakfast. Today you will drive across the heart of Andalusia with your final destination, the Mediterranean coast. We recommend a stop half way along the route to visit the ancient and splendid city of Antequera. Although having great importance during the Roman occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, the city still maintained a position of key relevance during the period of the Arabic and Christian conflicts as its innumerable monuments testify. But today, Antequera is world renowned for the Neolithic Dolmens, among the best preserved and largest in existence. After this trip back through time, you will continue towards the Costa del Sol. Upon arrival, you will check into the hotel selected. Overnight stay.
Day 9: Costa Del Sol
Breakfast. You will have the whole day at your leisure to explore this playground of the rich and famous. The possibilities are unlimited, from excursions to nearby villages to experience the daily life of inhabitants, sample the local gastronomy in quaint restaurants and taverns, or play a round of golf on one the many courses in the area, some of professional category. Of course, you can take the most common option of visitors to the area and spend a day at one of the zone`s white beaches and bathe in the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean. Overnight stay.
Day 10: Costa Del Sol - USA
Breakfast. Depart for the USA. Please be sure to give yourself enough time to drop the car off at the airport.
